Who is JMP!?

The founder, Burke, will have to tell you — except he won’t. JMP! might be an acronym. Doubtful. It might be an action. To JMP!? (Perhaps it’s like jumping as if u weren’t there.)

For the those of us not privy to its origin, JMP! has no meaning. Instead, JMP! is a persona.

When a collective of artists, an ensemble, contributes equally to a work, their mutual efforts are signed JMP!. Art for art’s sake means for the good of what the art needs to be, not necessarily per the wishes of the individual artist.

Collectives who work on a JMP! project are asked to surrender their talents to the process. We will celebrate artists. We will pay artists. We will fund artists’ art. However, the published works of this collective will always be signed JMP!.

JMP! is the nobody —yes! But more importantly, JMP! is the everybody.

Why subscribe?

Subscribe if you are an appreciator of the absurd, of the beautiful, and of the most human. The humanness means we’ll likely forget to send you an email for ten months at a time. The beautiful means what we do send you has true love empowering it. The absurd means you might not understand what you receive from us — and that’s okay. Neither do we. Things we don’t understand are called “Burkisms.”

What is a “Burkism?”

Coined after JMP!’s founder, Burke. A “Burkism” describes intentionally obtuse communication. Sometimes out of laziness. Sometimes in fear of actually being understood. However, it’s usually out of gluttony. Yes. Some egos relish the abstruse and the florid. Guilty.

Is subscribing free?

Indeed. You are free to subscribe. It will cost you zero dollars. To quote a famous poet,

“There’s no money in poetry, but there’s also little poetry in money.”

Our day jobs fund this fun. The funds we receive from the art we sell are 100% returned to fund more art, more artists, more JMP!s.
